BILLY McEwan is hoping his Mansfield Town can show more ruthlessness against visiting Grays Athletic on Saturday (3pm) after almost letting sides off the hook in their last two home games.
Stags have just won three successive times at home, but it took a late clinching fourth goal to end the fightback of Kidderminster Harriers and then a stoppage time winner beat Northwich last weekend, both times after the visitors had threatened to overturn what seemed to be a winning lead for Mansfield.

"From the fans' point of view it is exciting but for a manager it's heart attack stuff," he said.

"We have to kill teams off and not give them any lift by amateur defending. We can't keep throwing two goal leads away against a team that at certain stages of a game look dead and buried.

"We have to take our chances to blow them out of sight.

"But you can't be too critical as these players have done great in our situation. We just know there is room for improvement week in week out.
"If we had defended properly this season we would be top of the league now as daft as it sounds."

Ahead of Tuesday's televised return to his former club York City, this Saturday will see McEwan's fourth home game out of the first six BSP fixtures.

"It's just the way the fixtures have worked out and we have to take advantage of it as we know there are a lot of tough games ahead both home and away," he said.

"We want another three points but it won't be easy. Grays will be a tough side with some decent players – I know many of them from past experience. We are aware of them and won't underestimate them."

Jason Lee and Michael Blackwood continue to receive treatment for ankle and calf injuries respectively and no decision will be taken until the last minute on their participation on Saturday."

Juzzie,

Let's make it 4 out of 4 wins at home so far this season - I know the lads are capable of doing it! They just need to stay focused and don't switch off after taking a lead.

Any chance of a 3000ish crowd? I'd settle for a 2500ish crowd that sings it's heart out 90mins!!!

Yeh regardless of the number who turns up those of you that do if you arent going to sing dont bother coming i say whats point in coming to sit there for 90 mins not making a noise unlesss we score, but yes 3000+ would be nice and they have got to stop switching off after taking the lead

Juzzie & Adam, are you expecting Grays to bring 800+ fans???Thats probably the only way we`ll get 3000 fans tomorrow.
It`s no good worrying about it,because time has proved that the vast majority of Mansfield folk only support something that`s successful.Just sit back & watch. If we have a good Cup run, just them them flock to the ticket office. They`re just "Glory seeking muppets"!!!!
Come on Billy,3 more points tomorrow & then lets go & stick it up your old mates at York

Regarding the attendences you have to take into account the very poor away following that clubs bring.
If you took the number of away fans from some league 2 crowds,ie usually 2 to 3 hundred, 50% of the teams have poorer home followings than us.
As for the stay away fans ideally you would like them to stay away, unfortunateley we do need them to return, though a combination of the admission price, the fact that wheather we like it or not we are a non league side and the reality that there are only a handful anyway means we are not that likely to get 3000 home fans coming to games.
Given the above facts I think to average over 2500 per home game so far is quite good.

I just wonder what sort of HOME support we would have got this year had we have stopped up? Probably the same 2400-2500 hardcore LOYAL SUPPORTERS weve had 4 years eh. All the stay aways were just using Sheik-at-Ahlm's tenure as an excuse it now seems.

Just a footnote to say what a joke our so called LOCAL radio station is they do not even have a decent sports show on on a Friday night any more. This pitiful outfit has lost my listening for good. Ican listen to the latest musical drivel on ANY radio station THANKS.
At least we have the good old BBC (thanks you are the best), Id sooner listen to Slater commenting on Countys latest defeat and up to date scoreflashes than the drivel 103.useless serves up when I cant get to a computer.

I doubt it WOODHOUSE STAG as Ive said before people in Mansfield just aint bothered. If you think that getting the North stand back will make a difference think again. Any one who aint coming 4 that reason aint a true supporter its just another reason to stayaway. The next excuse will be the pies are the wrong flavour, the grass is not the right shade of green, there are a few floodlights not working so we cant see properly Boo Hoo I think Im gonna cry. PLAIN AND SIMPLE THEY DONT CARE A MONKEYS!!!!!!!!!!!

I listened to an interview a while back perry said it is possible to get the north stand back but only untill we get back in football league because there are bigger away crowds.
