THE ticket office at Mansfield Town has been closed on Wednesday morning after it received abusive telephone calls and e-mails from disgruntled fans.
Supporters had wanted refunds for tickets for Saturday's now meaningless match at Dagehnham, after last night's relegation to non league football.
Around 1,200 fans had bought tickets for the match over the past few days, believing that it would be a crucial relegation decider.
On Wednesday morning the club said: "We have received a number of telephone calls this morning from supporters who wish to claim a refund for their Dagenham tickets.
"The tickets were sold on behalf of Dagenham. The income received as a result of our ticket sales is theirs and not ours.
"Having completed a sale, we are only acting as agents for Dagenham. Consequently, we cannot offer any refunds.
"As a result of a number of abusive telephone calls and e-mails, the ticket office is closed for today."
Chief executive Stephen Booth told the club's official website
mansfieldtown.net: "We would ask all supporters to remember we were only acting as agents for Dagenham and it is most inappropriate to direct abuse at young women in the ticket office.
"We hope all right-minded fans bear in mind the predicament we are in. The tickets are being sold in good faith on behalf of Dagenham and I appeal to people to act responsibly.
"We understand the frustrations of supporters, but we are not in a position to offer any refunds."
