A ROW has broken out over the sale of tickets for the Stags' probable relegation decider at Dagenham on the last day of the season.
Fans are angry at Mansfield Town on three fronts:

  • No ticket sale priority has been given to fans group the SSA as previously agreed

  • The club has taken all 158 available seats for staff, players, executive members and sponsors

  • Season ticket holders are being allowed 2 tickets - making it unlikely that any will go on general sale

  • This is issue is discussed in this week's edition of Stags Talk. Click here to listen.

The match has been made all-ticket with the Stags allocated 1,242 standing tickets - and 158 seats.

At 4.15pm on Wednesday 545 of the standing tickets had been sold.

Late on Wednesday - a few hours after Chad raised the above issues - the club issued a statement saying that some seats were now available for the disabled and OAPs. See details at bottom of page

The standing tickets are being sold first to season ticket holders, who unusually are entitled to two tickets each. Previously, season ticket holders have normally been restricted to one ticket.

Any tickets unsold by Tuesday morning will then go on general sale. However, with between 1,000 and 1,100 season ticket holders, the club says it does not expect tickets to be left.

But the Stags Supporters Association (SSA) - which pays £5,000 for the players' training facilities at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex and has also supported the youth team this season with financial help - says it has an agreement with the club which gives them second priority for any all-ticket matches behind season ticket holders and ahead of general sale.

  • Dagenham tickets go on sale

The agreement was signed by the then chairman James Derry last year.

The club's U-turn follows two recent appeals for cash help from the supporters group which were turned down.

But Stags chief executive Stephen Booth told Chad: "We have made two tickets available for season ticket holders because they have requested this in the past and season ticket holders are fundamental to this club, we need to reward them.

"As for any priority agreement with the SSA, I am not aware of one and have not seen any paperwork relating to this."

However, the SSA says that the chief executive is fully aware of the agreement - click here to see a copy.

A spokesman said: "Our joint chairmen Andrew Saunders and Dean Foulkes spoke to Mr Booth earlier this week, when he was reminded of the agreement.

"We are bitterly disappointed that the club has again seen fit not to honour the agreement - as happened for the Middlesbrough FA Cup tie.

"Mr Booth was reminded of the agreement at that time and a copy was left for him at the club to see the details for himself.

"The club has shown total disregard again for the official fans group at a time when it is asking supporters to get behind them.

"The SSA has always been behind the club and is bemused by the apparent snub, once again.

"We are at a total loss as to how to explain the club's decision on these tickets to our members."

Supporters are also upset that the club has taken all the available seats for its sponsors and staff - and that with Dagenham having just four spaces for Mansfield's disabled fans, this means some supporters will not be able to attend the match.

One fan, Martin Bird told Chad: "I have an 11-year-old disabled son, Jamie, who has cerebral palsy and needs to sit down at matches. We have been to every match home and away this season. No consideration has been given to the disabled fans.

"Why has the club just taken all the seats? I have never known this to happen before."

Other elderly fans queueing for tickets on Wednesday morning and wanting seats were also told that there were tickets on sale for the standing area only.

But chief executive Stephen Booth, when told by Chad of the fans' complaints over the lack of seats, said:: "We have to look after our sponsors. Demand for this match is extremely high.

"We need to reward those who have supported us all season. I have tried to be as fair as I can.

"We could have sold 3,000 tickets for a game of this magnitude.

"But I do think there will be some seats left for general sale."

Late on Wednesday the club said: "We are pleased to announce that due to an additional allocation we are releasing up to five pairs of seats for disabled spectators - these tickets do not accommodate wheelchairs.

"Disabled supporters will need to come to the Field Mill ticket office and provide the relevant disability documents. The disabled ticket includes a free helper.

"We have also been allocated an additional 20 pairs specifically for senior citizens, priced at £10 and £16 for adults.

"The tickets are available for season ticket holders only. Should these be unsold as of 5pm Monday 28th April, they will go on sale the following day at 9am."

Will the sponsors honestly take all 158 tickets? I highly doubt it. Why not just save 50 of them, Booth, for the Mansfield fans who need them for medical reasons?

What a disgraceful set of proceedings.

We are now seeing the major signs of an inexperienced man who has suddenly decided he wants a crack at this football lark. He has no clue about how to treat the fans and we suffer for it.

And of course we can't forget the usual contradictory quotes that always come out. The club don't expect any tickets to go on general sale, yet Booth does think this will happen. Does Booth talk to anyone at the club bar his good friend, Keith Haslam?

As Chief Exec you'd have thought Booth would have checked his facts before stating he was unaware of the agreement between SSA and MTFC. Booth was made aware of this after the Middlesborough tickets went on sale. I would guess that SSA will not enter any discussion with the club on any planned investment until such time as Booth and Haslam no longer blight our club with their presence. The 158 "tickets for mates" is just a disgrace and is just one example in a very, very long list of how little we as supporters matter to Booth/Haslam. They didn't even have the decency to hold a few for the regular disabled away travellers.

Boy is our club rock, rock bottom.

Oh, and I suppose you'll have a seat won't you Booth, because unlike the fans who are unable to stand for 90 minutes, you definitely need one, on 'medical grounds'.
