STRIKER Jefferson Louis has left Field Mill after his contract expired with Mansfield Town.
The big striker's short-term contract expired on Wednesday and manager Paul Holland - still waiting to hear if he will be appointed for next season - has decided to allow Louis to leave Field Mill.

Louis, who came to Field Mill in the January transfer window, is now attracting interest from three Division II clubs.

He scored four goals in 18 Stags' appearances, after joining earlier this year when Billy Dearden was manager.

Louis said: "I am sad to be leaving . . . I have really enjoyed my time at Mansfield.

"It's a real shame it had to end like this - with Mansfield getting relegated.

"I would like to say a big thank you to the supporters who made me very welcome.

"I have proven I can play in League football again and have answered my critics."

Holland told the club's official website mansfieldtown.net: "The contract which he originally signed was agreed before I took over as manager. Jefferson now has other irons in the fire and I wish him well."

On Thursday the manager said that his plans for next season would include retaining around just 75% of the current squad - that could mean perhaps as many as 13 players leaving the Mill.

At the same time Holland - appointed only until the end of the season - and captain Jake Buxton called for the club to make a quick decision on the manager for next season.

But when Chad contacted chief executive Stephen Booth, who has met with Holland over recent hours, he said: "No comment."

Thanks Big Jeff for your attitude and commitment, this bloke has run his socks off for the Stags and I for one will never forget his contribution away at Wycombe.
Go and get yourself a proper contract with a properly run club, all the best fellah.

I watched Jefferson for Stags at Darlo. He caused their defence all sorts of problems for the full 90 minutes and scored a good headed goal. We won and I thought that he would help us get out of the mess but there are/were just too many substandard players in the current squad.

Jefferson - one of the few MTFC players who did give everything for their club. Its a shame the other players and management didnt, everyone seems to have forgotten this in the current crisis. It's sad, but they are where they are because they werent good enough.

players around him, with exception of Micky, were not good enough consistently

I saw a very different picture of Jeffo. He started off on fire, but sadly that soon went out and then when soon saw a player who wouldn't run for a ball that was 10yards in front of him.
Hes a big 6ft 2 bloke that used to get pushed off the ball far to easy.

Yes but he was the only pressence in the air we had and now we have just a bunch of 5 ft people the new players today were all tiny

You have to question Dearden's performance this season. Consistently Stags were out-muscled by bigger teams. You have to recruit stronger player with skill to survive these days and Billy sent out our midgets week after week. Also we did not use the loan system to the full - could have got a decent back-up goalkeeper as Jason White will never make it - cost us dearly whenever he played - worst keeper in the league.
He could have solved our weaknesses at the back too.
