A PASSIONATE Stags fan living in Australia has turned his back on Field Mill because of the Keith Haslam factor - despite flying thousands of miles to watch Mansfield Town play.
Former Mansfield man Peter Passant (59) regularly travels to England from his home Down Under at least twice a year to see the Stags in action.
His next trip will be at Easter - but he has vowed to stay away from the Easter Saturday home match against Grimsby and the April Fool's Day home clash with Wrexham in protest at the actions of the football club's controversial owner.
Peter, like hundreds of Stags fans, is angered at last Tuesday's Haslam smoking row at Field Mill - and the owner's general stewardship of the Stags.
He said: "This hurts me immensely, but I will not put another penny into the pockets of Keith Haslam. I will be attending the away games at Bury and Notts County and would normally have stayed a couple of extra days just to get the home game against Wrexham (1st April).
"If Mr Haslam is still there I will be saving the expense of going to the game and staying in a hotel for an additional two nights. My next scheduled trip is at the end of August and if he is still involved I may not even bother.
"His actions on Tuesday night (the cigar row during the Morecambe match) have put him even lower in my esteem - and I did not think that this was possible."
Sponsor
Peter is such an avid Stags fans that his house in Australia has the name 'Field Mill' and his car registration is MTFC. He is also an original member in the 'Wall of Fame' and used to sponsor goals scored even though he didn't get to see many of them!
He is also an Amber member of the Stags Supporters Association (SSA), a Silver member of TEAM Mansfield and, as far ago as 1983, was match ball sponsor for the home game against York City.
Peter - a former Brunts School pupil - used to live on Brownlow Road, then Ladybrook Lane and finally Beck Crescent in Mansfield, before moving to live in Carlton and subsequently emigrating in 1978.
He works in the IT industry and has been a Stags fan for more than 50 years, remembering seeing Denis Wright in goal and Don Bradley in the number 3 shirt.
He added: "Football is a game for the supporters of Mansfield, not the owner of Mansfield".
