BILLY Dearden was all smiles as his depleted side finally gave him his first away League win since 3rd March at Chester on Saturday afternoon.
With other sides around them slipping up, Stags are suddenly only two points from safety with a game in hand after their battling 1-0 victory, courtesy of Matt Hamshaw's second half goal and an amazing save by Carl Muggleton.

Dearden said: "I have never gone so long without an away League win wherever I've been.

"But we have not put anything right yet - all we have done is win a game away from home and now we have to build on it.

"I am very pleased for the lads. We had young lads going in there today and they worked their socks off. They came back into the dressing room like they'd won the cup.

"I am chuffed to bits for them and you could see our supporters were chuffed too when the lads went over at the end.

"Other results went for us too which helps though I don't want to have to rely on other teams. We have to win matches and get away from it ourselves.

"I thought we created the best chances, though Carl Muggleton made two good saves.

"We had three good chances in the first half. Then we got the goal which was very similar to the one we got at Brighton with Simon Brown picking up deep and waiting for Matt Hamshaw before making the pass.

"I thought John Mullins did well today though you don't like singling players out as it was a very good team performance.

"Young Chris Wood did very well up against a fair player like Kevin Ellison who has done well at every club he's been at.

"That was Woody's first game of any kind for three months so I was very pleased for him.

"The lads worked very hard and knew what they had to do. We were all very disappointed after Tuesday. But they rolled their sleeves up today and got their first away win.

"That will boost the lads and we have a good break now before next weekend.

"The lads looked a bit jaded which is understandable as I think they have made us play too many games in too short a space of time.

"They can have a good rest this week and then get them prepared for Darlington next Saturday."

Billy, yes the lads did look jaded towards the end . . . you must get in some new blood!! Please, can we have a physical presence up front and someone who can hold the ball up to relieve the inevitable pressure.

Get some experienced players who bring something different to the team who can create chances and can score from set pieces
