Whatever Mansfield Town's destiny, boss Paul Holland wants to sort out his own future this week.
And, if the Stags are playing Conference football next season, Holland is already devising a master plan for an immediate return.

Holland was given the last 12 games of the season to try to save the club from a relegation, which could be confirmed tomorrow if Chester take a point at home to Stockport.

But Holland believes he has done a good enough job to be given the post on a longer term basis and, once installed, he intends quickly sorting out his playing staff and then investigating in depth how the likes of Doncaster Rovers and Colchester United bounced back from relegation to non-League football all the stronger for it.

"We have to cling to the hope we will stay up while it is still there," he said. "But if we do go down then I believe I am the man to lead us back up.

"I have been as positive as I can since I took over and tried to get the best out of the players we have here. They responded and we have improved, though we may have fallen at the last hurdle.

"Now I hope the club will make a decision quickly. Wrexham and Chester have both given their managers new two-year contracts.

"There is a long hard summer of work ahead here and I want to get started on it as soon as I can.

"It is important to look at clubs like Doncaster and Colchester and see how they approached it when they went down. I want to speak to people concerned at these clubs and find out how they did it.

"If we are relegated it is vital we get back early. Look at clubs like Oxford. If you don't get back up first season then you can soon dwell in that league and it becomes the norm.

"It would be disappointing to have to take a step backwards. But we would then have to make sure we take two or three steps forward. And there are going to have to be massive changes here on and off the field to do that.

"If we go down we would be a League club playing in the Conference and that's a good time to attract players. I would promise them a good season, playing attractive football.

"That's how I would want to get us back up. I want us to play the right way."

However, until Chester gain one more point from their last two games, Stags hopes remain alive.

And Holland will be a more than interested spectator at the Deva Stadium tomorrow night.

"I will certainly be a Stockport fan for the night," he said. "Stockport may rest some players but I just hope they make a good fist of it.

"I will probably go and stand with the Stockport fans and start the cheering!"

Clear out the lot- Sorry Paul nothing personal, but nothing has really changed still in the bottom 2 and on the way out of the league.
The only way forward is a completely new approach, Food for Thought I know PH is passionate about the club, if staying up meant being passionate there is enough passion on here to make us champions!
JB If you are there bring it on!

i disagree we would not be a league club at all we
would be a conference club, and should not go in there
thinking we are too good for it or we might get a bit
of a shock,

Anything is better than Haslam. And I mean anything. I've had enough. I can't stand the thought of another season with that Count (of Calver) as owner. Bachelor is our only chance cos he's the only person who might be able to do business with Haslam. I don't need to be reminded of his past record, and everything he has done to upset everyone and ruin people's lives. I sympathise with York fans and previous employees. 'Harchester United' was such an insult to Stags etc. etc. BUT he's been accountable in his openness to discussion. Amongst his admittedly ridiculous approaches, he's got some ideas that need to be considered. Let's face it, all the Stags groups, the local business community and all the other people who I would rather deal with have been unable to do anything to wrestle control from Haslam. With regard to the slap that Haslam got on Saturday, I condone violence entirely in this context (nothing pc about me) but it will only have strengthened Haslam's hand. If I'm honest, all I really want is a successful football team on the pitch. There's many a football club owner who has the morals of Jack the Ripper. At least Bachelor is up front about what he's trying to do. He'll only get my money through the turnstiles. And I'll keep travelling the 100 miles down to Field Mill if he can produce a winning team. So, like Bernie Cat, I say bring JB on. Could he really be worse than Haslam? I don't think so. Could he help return a measure of success to MTFC? No idea, but has anyone got a better idea other than more years of waiting for Haslam to kick the bucket?

At last we may have sense kickin with some of the fans- "Hey Keith" somes up most fans concerns and speaks a lot of sense, JB- He may not be everyones cup of tea but at least he is trying to broker a deal, with a difficult set of circumstances going on.If we dont then saturday afternoon will be spent shopping at the "Keith Haslam retail Park" buying imitation MUFC kits for football supporters, at least this way we get some form of MTFC- the above does not bear thinking about!

Well the lunatics have finally taken over the asylum, J Batch would have the club closed within months, pocket your season ticket money (not the first time eh John?) and run off to make money from some other unfortunate soul. The only comment you made I agree with is that Batch is upfront HE'S TOLD US HE'LL SHUT US DOWN!!

As for Holland, well I'll give you one thing Paul you've got some neck lad, if only you had something between your tabs.

shame we can't be like county and stay in the league by our own merit instead of hoping someone else falls at the last goal post !!Maybe the blue square is the shock that the club needs to rebuild

i fear we are finished now as a club,it is so sad and i think the fans have played a big part in it. they have had no tact in how they have done things. its all fell perfectly for haslam to destroy us now. oh bye the way ayup meduck you talk nonsense about paul holland having nothing between his tabs. the man is very clever indeed and i dont think he has done a bad job at all. in one breath the fans blame the haslam years for this decline and ultimate relegation through lack of investment and in another its paul hollands fault. gee talk about double mindedness.

everyone blames haslam and now turning on paul holland but no one is blaming the real culprits here the inconsistent players.
