EFFERVESCENT Jefferson Louis snatched a last minute winner in the 2-1 success at Wycombe to haul the Stags off the bottom of the Football League on Saturday and then declared: "We are not giving up without a fight."
But Louis, who marked his full debut with his second Mansfield Town goal and also won a penalty for the breakthrough goal - Micky Boulding's 16th League strike of the season - might not have been on the pitch.
Manager Billy Dearden told Chad after the fourth successive away win - the best Stags run away from Field Mill since an incredible seven successive away wins in 1991: "I was thinking of taking him off for the last 10 minutes, I didn't think he would last the full game as he had hardly trained in the last month.
"But he stuck at it and got another goal. I couldn't ask any more from him.
"He is a handful and will be for any team in this division. He has just got to keep his feet on the ground now and not get carried away."
The big striker, who was without a club until he was signed by Dearden 10 days ago, said: "I am just really happy for team, this is a great help in the relegation fight."
Louis, who scored as a second half substituite in last week's home defeat by Darlington, added: "I am taking every game as it comes. I am not 100% fit yet, but hopefully I will be as games go by.
"Because I have not been playing for a while my fitness levels are not what they can be, but it's just match fitness. That will come if I keep playing."
Louis added: "I am trying to put myself about, that's what the gaffer wants and it's all about doing it for team.
"The lads are really happy tonight because we have won. We have got to get out of the relegation trouble and we are not giving up without a fight.
"Hopefully we can beat Morecambe on Tuesday, but I am just taking every game as it comes."
