The Mansfield swimmer, who grabbed her second Beijing gold medal in the pool in the early hours of Saturday, and her family will be guests of honour at a future Stags game when the crowd will be invited to give her a minute's applause as she takes a bow on the pitch.

But the celebrations started before that, with joining together for a minute's applause ahead of Saturday afternoon's home match with Kidderminster.

Chairman Andy Perry told Chad on Saturday morning: "We already had plans to invite her to a future match and have congratulated her in the programme after her 400 metres gold.

"But afer the terrific second gold medal this morning we felt it appropriate to have the minute's applause this afternoon as well."

On Friday chairman Perry told Chad: "Through the Mayor, Tony Egginton, we have already been in touch with the family and they would like to take us up on the offer of coming to a future match," said Stags chairman Andy Perry.

"They will come to a game as executive guests, have a meal and watch the match.

"Then we hope Rebecca will go out on the pitch with her medal and the fans can applaud her.

"I am not sure which game it will be as yet as she is a busy woman and has to look at her schedule.

"We did acknowledge her achievements so far in Tuesday night's programme, but it would be nice to see her here at Field Mill."

Nice of the chad to say "Rebecca will go out on the pith with her medal"
I trust it should be pitch, or will the booze be flowing in the Executive Bar
Whichever it is, its very well deserved
