MANSFIELD Town left-back Paul Heckingbottom has joined BSP rivals Gateshead on loan until the end of the season.
With limited first team opportunities available to him at Field Mill now Craig Armstrong has battled his way back into the side, the decision was made to allow the 32-year-old to play on a more regular basis.

However, he, like ex-Stag Daryl Clare, will not be allowed to play against Mansfield during the Tynesiders' visit to Field Mill on Saturday.

"Paul will go there on loan to the end of the season so if we are in the play-offs and short of a left back we can bring him back," said manager David Holdsworth.

"This has been going on for 10 days now. Paul wants to play first team football and Gateshead can guarantee him that. We wish him well for the future."

Heckingbottom joined Mansfield at the start of the season following his release from Bradford City and has made 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process.

Today is the last day of the January transfer window and, with Jon Shaw, Luke Foster and Neil Collett having just joined the club, there was no news of further incoming players as of 4.20pm this afternoon.

So Hecks has gone to Gateshead on loan until the end of the season.
Above story states that he has limited first team oppurtunities at Field Mill, bit of a surprise, he has been first choice for over a dozen games.(Although someone on here mention that Hecks and DH had a bust up prior to the Chester game).
Not dissappointed though, most of us on here criticised him and I'm sure he WAS a decent player but past his best by the time we signed him. (Although DH must have seen something in order to have signed him).

I`m well p*ssed off!!!!!!!

No,not that he`s gone.

The fact that he cant play against us.
Surely we`d have had a far better chance with him IN their side............lol

It`s no secret that i didnt rate him.
Though i do believe he could be a good player, but his `Legs have gone`,which makes him far too slow.

I still wish him luck at Gateshead!!!

Didn't rate him that much anyway.
Only even seem to have one pass and that was a long ball.
He never seem to look up and make the right ball..
Armstrong seems far better
