HIGH-FLYING Mansfield Town lost their unbeaten six-match home record to lowly Woking on Saturday afternoon to a controversial penalty.
Their proud home record was then placed under threat when Woking opened the scoring through a controversial 58th minute spot kick - a terrible decision from referee Dean Mohareb who judged Alan O'Hare guilty of pushing.

  • Full considered match report to follow

Woking, full of time wasting and spoiling tactics, then clung on to their undeserved lead as the Stags fought back, but failed to carve out many clear-cut chances or equalise.

At a wet and windy Field Mill the atmosphere on and off the pitch became more frenetic as the second half wore on.

Striker Jason Lee replaced full back Alex Jeannin as the Stags went for broke and immediately helped to create their best chance of the match.

But Michael Blackwood's header from a Nathan Arnold cross was easily saved.

Six minutes from time a close range Mark Stallard shot was chested off the line by Tom Hutchinson as the Stags stepped up the pressure - but ultimately failed to save their home record as Woking recorded their third successive 1-0 victory.

The first half was devoid of much goalmouth action as the Stags struggled to recreate their impressive early season home form.

Town had given a debut to loan signing Maxine Chanot, a French central defender.

Chanot (18), signed on a month's loan from Sheffield United on Friday afternoon, went straight into the team for the injured Adie Moses, who limped off at half-time in last weekend's win at Salisbury.

  • Stags sign defender on loan

The Stags, third placed and undefeated in six games at home this season, also retained Gavin Hurren in midfield in favour of Jon D'Laryea following his good performance at Salisbury.

Woking came to Field Mill on the back of two successive 1-0 wins under new boss Paul Gilchrist after a poor start to the season which still left them in the bottom four at kick-off.

The Cards included former Stags Goma Lambu, at Mansfield in Keith Curle's reign, in their line-up.

They also started with a 4-1-4-1 formation - as they looked to build on their dreadful away form which has included just point on their travels all season.

MANSFIELD TOWN: Gamble, Silk, O'Hare, Chanot, Jeannin (Lee 72mins); Arnold, Somner, Hurren (D'Laryea 59mins), Blackwood; Stallard, O'Connor (Robinson 90mins). Subs: Herriott, Lee, Wood.

WOKING: Pidgeley; Conan, Lorraine, Hutchinson, Miles (Bunce 46mins); Quamina; Lambu, Marum (Moone 86mins), Sole, Ledgister; Domoraud. Subs: Worner, Williams, Sam-Yorke.

REFEREE: Mr Dean Mohareb, of Cheshire.

BOOKINGS: Mansfield - Chanot, 22mins, foul; Jeannin, 61mins, dissent. Woking - Ledgister, 45mins, foul; Marum, 73mins, foul; Conan, 90mins, foul.

ATTENDANCE: 2,563 (109)

14.40: Morning showers eased off, but a strengthening, blustery wind indicated that conditions would not be easy for the players.

14.58: With Moses out injured, Stallard took over the captain's responsibilities for the Stags.

15.00: The 'singing stand' idea seemed to attract quite a few fans with chanting in support of the Stags from the kick-off. - 'Singing Stand' story
15:02: Great chance for the Stags, O'Connor's close range shot blocked by the diving defender Miles.

15.03: From the following Blackwood corner Stallard's flick-on at the near post struck the outside of the post.

15.04: Debutant Chanot's first touch is a good one to cut out the danger as Domoraud burst through.

15.08: Great Silk cross after good work by Stallard, but Arnold just fails to get on the end of it at the far post.

15.14: Arnold's incisive pass almost picks out O'Connor, but keeper Pidgeley saves at the striker's feet.

15.16: Sole rounds Gamble to give the Stags a scare, but poor control sees the ball run out of play for a goal kick.

15.19: Arnold's mazy run across the face of the area, just fails to pick out unmarked Blackwood racing in from left.

15.23: New signing Chanot booked for foul on Marum.

15.24: Gamble drops a corner as the Stags come under pressure for first time, but the home side escape.

15.27: Fantastic run by Arnold, skipped past a defender and pulled ball back for O'Connor to curl a low shot agonisingly just wide from 16 yards.

15.36: For all their possession, the Stags are struggling to create clear cut chances.

15.42: Sole juggles the ball a defender in the area, but his cross is eventually taken by Gamble.

15.44: O'Connor close range effort blocked by Lorraine after Hurren shot deflected into his path.

15.45: Amazing escaoe for the Stags, Lorraine's flick goalwards beating Gamble and somehow Silk headed up off the line and Blackwood completed the unlikely clearance as a Woking goal seemed likely.

16.06: O'Connor shot almost gives the Stags the lead at the start of the second half.

16.12: Somner header lands on the roof of the net as the Stags press hard for the breakthrough - this time from a corner crossed twice into the area.

16.15: Driving rain and a very strong wind make a scrappy match even worse. And to make matters worse for the Stags they concede a controversial penalty when O'Hare brushes against Domoraud. The referee points to the spot even though there were few Woking protests. After long protests Sole rolls the ball expertly into the bottom corner as Gamble goes the other way, to his left.

16.20: The referee allows Woking's blatant time-wasting tactics, which began in the first half, to carry on, while booking Jeannin for protesting about them.

16.24: Great Silk cross, but no-one in the six-yard area to equalise for the Stags as the crowd grow increasingly impateient.

16.29: Great challenge by Conan denies Arnold as he races through on goal, the defender just poking the ball away as the winger shaped to shoot.

16.35: In a last-ditch gamble the Stags throw on striker Jason Lee for left back Alex Jeannin - with Blackwood dropping back to left back and Arnold moving back into the midfield.

16.37: Lee has an immediate impact, winning the ball for Arnold to cross and Blackwood head straight at the keeper - the Stags first effort on target in the match.

16.40: Lee mishits his shot as the Stags pile on the pressure.

16.43: The referee again allows time-wasting to go unpinished from the visitors.

16.44: So close for the Stags! Stallard close range shot chested off the line by Hutchinson.

16.50: Four minutes of added-on time announced.

16.56: The referee leaves the pitch to a crescendo of boos after the Stags lose 1-0.

absolute rubbish performance from the ref worst since mk dons:
Media comments on that penalty for Woking:

David Jackson (BBC Radio Nottingham) - an outrageous decision.

Tim Morriss (Mansfield CHAD) - a terrible decision from referee Dean Mohareb.

Nigel Pinnick (Stagsworld) - a terrible decision.

Phil Gittins (BBC SCR online commentary) - bad decision by the ref.

Not a great performance second half only player worth menstioning was the new defender.

Ok it was never a penalty (an absolutely shocking decision) but as I asked on the 27th can we get up for the game on Sat against a so called poorer weaker team. We once again failed badly to trouble a very very poor team. We never looked like testing their keeper and deserved what we got NOTHING.
Its a strange thing that in all th games I have watched the Stags play this season I have never left thinking 'Hey that was really good' because it has not been.

5 out of 7 home games first loss and you never left happy then you really are a negative person do you expect 5-0 thrashings every game?

we troubled there keeper plenty of times what game were you watching? we created far more chances than them and that was their best chance a penalty which never was.

Officials of this league are a joke and will no doubt show that even more on monday!

What happened to the so called SINGING BLOCK. But then the team did not give us much to sing about did they. It felt very much like last season ' Oh poor old Woking aint won away this season lets play really rubbish and give them 3 points'.
Im sorry lads anything better than halfway up the table come May will be a real bonus especially with this points deduction still to come.

The ref was poor but to be fair, we didn't play well. We didn't have many chances either. Chanot did well in defence and got the man of the match. For the first time, O'Connor didn't play that well.

Come on Stags!

Sorry Adam but I have still got this league mentality. Silly me I should know better than to expect us to crucify rubbish teams like this, especially at home. I should be like you and be happy watching dismal football in an awful awful league. I expect to much I know but when we were where only a few short years ago it is HARD to accept this mediocre fair

Its not great football i know that and im not happy watching it but not all of it is poor thats the first home game thats been a defeat and atleast the last 6 we had plenty of goals and some form of performance, but barely any teams who have come down have ever come straight back up and it wouldnt be a huge shock if we didnt but right at this moment we still have a chance unless the league makes more poor decissions and docks us points, its not league football we should beat teams at the bottom but teams in this league can beat anyone thats just how it is, the team needs improving and its a shame billy didnt go for barker because he would of been a great striker for this league he scored with his first touch today.
Its not great football but we are here because of that fool who cant be named and we have to accept that we are stuck in this poor league which is not of the standards of league football but league two wasent so great last season there were plenty of rubbish teams there so we just have to carry on supporting them and hope we dont lose points and can get a playoff space which at this moment in time is easily achievable we have got to start beating the smaller teams which at the moment for some reason we cant it may be like you said they just cant be up for games agaisnt the small teams but they are going to have to be, lets see how we do tuesday agaisnt stevenage.
