SAFETY officials have allowed Mansfield Town to increase their capacity a little ahead of this Saturday's local derby with Notts County.
Field Mill - the subject of safety restrictions for a couple of years - had been limited to 50 per cent (4,684) supporters following ticketing problems at the derby with Chesterfield at the start of the season.

But with last year's County clash attracting more than 6,000 to the Mill, the Stags were hoping to raise the figure.

Today Nottinghamshire County Council's Safety Advisory Group, which had imposed the restrictions, said the club had completed the necessary turnstile work in the North Stand and that now 1,335 fans would be allowed into that stand.

Immediately Notts County, who had sold out their 955 allocation, were given an extra 375 tickets.

However, the 50 per cent restriction remains in place in the rest of Field Mill - 2,746 fans in the West Stand and 983 in the South Stand. The total ground capacity is now set at 5,064.

But the Stags are still hoping that this figure will be lifted later this week.

A spokesman for the county council told Chad: "There are still ongoing issues in the other stands (West and South stands), so that figure will stay at 50 per cent."

A spokesman for Mansfield Town told Chad: "There are still around 1,000 tickets available for home fans and we would urge people to come down and buy their's this week. Fans are reminded that this is an all-ticket match and that the ticket office will be open until late on Wednesday."
