EXCITEMENT is mounting in Harrogate for Sunday's televised FA Cup clash between Harrogate Railway and Mansfield Town (1.10pm).
Stags are obviously the hot favourites to go through in front of BBC TV's Match of the Day cameras with the added incentive of a third round tie against a big name.

But that incentive is every bit as strong for the lowest ranked team left in the c
ompetition.

And their chairman Rob Northfield says Rail' could potentially net £1.5m should they beat Stags and draw Manchester United away - every reason for tossing and turning in the midst of the night.

"We had a committee meeting on Tuesday night, about 15 of us, and we all said we're having difficulty sleeping," said Northfield.

"You wake up at the four in the morning and you want to get on with it. It's like a little kid waking up for Christmas.

"I'm looking forward to it so much, and even my wife, who is normally the laid back one, is waking up at three or four in the morning.

"We've bought a new mascot, Barmy the Beaver, and she woke up thinking of him.

"He's arrived now, he's a seven foot mascot and everybody already loves him to death.

"He wants to train and warm up with the players but that will be up to Vinnie to see if he will let him."

Eighty league places higher, Mansfield arrive hot favourites tomorrow and Harrogate bookies Skybet make Railway 5-1 to pull off a shock victory.

However, Rail' have already beaten higher ranked Leigh RMI, Harrogate Town and Droylsden on their home turf and Northfield feels Rail' have every chance of pulling off their biggest scalp yet.

"I'm a gambling man and I put the chances at 50-50," said Northfield.

"They should come to us and beat us fairly convincingly, they are a full time professional outfit, they are four leagues above us but it's not like that.

"Our lads are winding themselves up for it, they are at our ground and most of the support is against them.

"It evens it up and so it's not as cut and dried as the bookmakers think.

"5-1 is an attractive price knowing our team. We may not beat them but we have got an opportunity that we believe we can take and that's nothing arrogant or over confident."

Northfield also has his usual pre-match motivational speech planned but has revealed Sunday's will involve something of a mystery twist.

"What I'm going to do would be considered a little bit unusual," said Northfield.

"It wouldn't be fair to say what it is, I'll tell you on Monday and you can tell me if it's worked."

The chairman is also planning wild celebrations should Rail' pull off Harrogate's biggest ever FA Cup shock.

"If we get through we'll have some special celebrations," he said.

"It would be four weeks until the next round and we'd have a massive Christmas party which I'd be happy to fund for the club. It would be amazing."

Boss Vinnie Brockie has a full strength squad to pick from on Sunday and says himself and his players will handle the media attention with no qualms at all.

"I'm excited, definitely, I'm looking forward to it - it's a big occasion," said Brockie.

"I'm like the players, I have no real experience of this sort of thing but we've just got to take it in our stride and that's all I'll be saying to them."

He also admits Rail' definitely have "a fighting chance."

"I think it's the same as the other ties in that we have to go out believing we've got a chance," he said.

"We can't underestimate Mansfield, they're a League Club and anybody who is thinking of doing that would be foolish.

"But we've got a chance, a fighting chance, and that's the way I see it."

Skipper Rob Morgan admits Station View will see wild scenes should Rail' send Mansfield packing.

"If we get past Mansfield it will be mental in the changing rooms afterwards," said Morgan.

"We've got to go out there thinking we've got a chance, we're at home and they won't know too much about us. I'm sure they won't be happy with our slope!"
