ANDY BURGESS tonight slammed the Mansfield Town boo boys who again game the team a hot reception as they left the field after the disappointing 0-0 home draw with Tamworth.
Just a week after a Stags fan threw his season ticket at manager David Holdsworth when they were winning, today's result saw booing and a chant of 'what a load of rubbish' greet manager and players as they left the pitch.

And a clearly upset Stags
midfielder Burgess said: "I would rather they didn't turn up and we played in front of one man if that's how they're going to be.

"It's the way I feel and I am sure I will be ridiculed for it but so be it.
"We are only human. I am sure they will say we are professionals and we should be used to it but it doesn't help. But that is the nature of the beast I suppose.

"Kyle Perry and I walked off together and only one lady clapped us.

"I know they pay their money and are entitled to their opinion, but we are still in with a shout of the play-offs this season and we need everyone together.

"If not then there is nothing we can do about it. That's football fans for you up and down the country. They are frustrated but so are we.
"If we win on Tueday I am sure we will get clapped off.

"When the home fans are on your back and being negative towards you, it gives the away supporters and their team a lift.

"To say we are not trying is nonsense. That is a massive stand with a lot of supporters in it if they are against us and maybe we need to give them more of a lift."

He added: "We have dominated for long spells without putting the ball in the net. We had decent balls into the box, a number of corners and free kicks across the six yards box and, on another day, we could have won three or four-nil.

"Maybe the forwards were not in the right place at the right time today. But it's a team game and we are not going to blame anyone.

"There were of positives we can take out of that game into Tuesday's game with York.

"The problem is when we are keeping clean sheets we are not scoring and when we do score goals we are conceding which is not ideal.

"It is where we are and there are still a lot of teams above us we have to play and anything can happen this season which been shown more than any other league I have seen in which anyone can beat anyone."

Mansfield boss David Holdsworth added: "The fans were as frustrated as we were and I respect that. But you don't want it to affect the players.

"They are entitled to their opinion 100 per cent. But encouragement and getting behind the players is the way forward."I want to shout and scream too at times but we must make sure we show encouragement and support."

"We certainly wanted three points today but it wasn't to be which was frustrating.

"I asked for patience but that was running out near the end and we were then looking for a bit of magic.

"Overall we had the majority of play and they didn't even enter our box in the second half and Alan Marriott was getting cold.
"We got enough balls into their box but my strikers today didn't look sharp enough.

"Ryan Williams struggled to make an impact today and it was back to the drawing board with Louis Briscoe after last week's superb display. He went past people but then didn't release it .But he is a young man still learning.

"Numerically nothing has changed as we are still six points off the play-off places and we still have some huge games to play."

Defender Michael Brough said: "We thought it was a game we needed to win before and we have said that all week so we are disappointed with the end result.

"We were pleased with a clean sheet, though. It was a scrappy game and the conditions didn't help. There weren't the chances and it wasn't an open game with defences on top.

"I think we needed a bit more quality in the final third. But we can only affect the next game and we will be looking for three points against York."

"We had a couple of great chances to put the ball into the net to win it and we really needed those three points," said Lambs boss Gary Mills.

"But we have come here and got a clean sheet at Mansfield which was a great effort by my players who I thought were the better side over 90 minutes.

"We came under pressure from their long throws and free kicks but they didn't open us up in open play.

"Mansfield are a strong side and we knew we had to be switched on which we were.

"The lads have been magnificent for me from day one this season and we are delighted with the point.

"We have just lost to Rushden and Histon in games which we deserved something out of so it's not like we have been playing badly.

"I am sure David Holdsworth won't agree about the first of them but I think we have now had three good matches with Mansfield this season in which we've had a win, a draw and a defeat.

"I read one of their players had said they were comfortable winners in the 4-2 win at our place last month but he must have been watching a different game as we battered them in the second half."

So brother Dean will be joining us at "The Mill" next year with his Newport team. Lets just hope that by then we have a forward line that is better than the collective talents of Duffy, Shaw and the abysmal Perry. The sad reality is, that even if we do, there wont be many people there watching it.
We simply dont have any direction or alternative game plan against truly inept sides.
DH and the highly qualified Gareth Holmes have constructed a team of average non league players goalkeeper excepted)and that is where we are going to stay.
And how does Burgess have the nerve to criticise the fans ?. Exactly what has he contributed to MTFC so far, other than an ill advised flutter at the bookies?

Andy - I thought the support from the fans was terrific during the game today and despite it being awful to watch i felt they really tried and got behind the team. Its a shame the players didn't respond. At the end , it not about todays result but more the performances over a long period now and the fans rightly are frustrated. They will be here when you are long gone....

When it's awful, all I want to do is get out as quickly as possible - I'd never boo.

It was awful today but if it's any consolation, Andy, I thought you were the only player to show some real skill (at last!)

I agree Mcvane . Burgess was our best attacking player . Just cant see us scoring against a good York defence Tuesday.

My,my,my.We are being very negative today chaps.
As my glass has been half empty for a long time now, today was no surprise....Was it?
Lets start by looking at the positives.
We`ve extended the unbeaten run.
A clean sheet, despite being out `Footballed`...Yep,they certainly played the better `Football`,but we were much better than them at Hoofing it up in the air....I dont think there are many other teams in this League that can Hoof it as well as us.......lol
I cant understand why we dont play 4-0-6,because we dont need a midfield.
I`m afraid Andy Burgess is way off the mark. The support from the upper Ian Greaves stand was second to none!!!
The boos were AFTER the final whistle,so how he thinks it can give the opposition a lift is baffling!
Will we make the Play-Offs?
Highly unlikely. We simply aint good enough!!!

Oh yes....Stags 0,Gateshead 2
Rushden & Diamonds 8,Gateshead 0......
Says it all,dunt it???

That was the most inept performance I have experienced from a Mansfield team ever.
NONE of the players or management should criticise fans from venting their feelings by booing whether you agree or not.
Second rate none league players assembled by an inexperienced manager.
Well it is definitely the last game for me.
No season ticket for me next year after 45 + years and unless there is vast improvement, which I doubt under the current manager, I will not attend Field Mill next season.
Don't complain Burgess do your job.

As Delboy says, the fans were magnificent throughout the game, the players can't expect any more surely. The booing at the end is exactly what the performance from the players deserved.

firstly does anyone know the song that was played as the teams were about to kick off the blue and amber one...
....secondly, WHAT AN AWFUL GAME! i think that all the players that have had a constant place in the team are suffering from all the physicality's of training and also the games, but we really do need another jake speight (one we let go in the shape of aaron o conner) maybe not a first choice but when speightys out he'd be good with duffers up top.

So the radio interview with Burgess advised us our players go out and give 100% every match!

Question - Why are we not top of the League then?

Answer - The players we have are not good enough, even when they give 100% to get us out of this League!

None of us want to make negative comments, boo or shout "What a Load of Rubbish" but we have paid our money have been continually frustrated by inept performances this season and emotions take over for some people during or at the end of matches. These people care otherwise they wouldn't be there!

MTFC want to start thinking about how they are going to sell 2,700 Season Tickets again next season!
