MICKY and RORY Boulding made Mansfield Town FC history as another record tumbled at Field Mill in the 3-0 FA Cup First Round defeat of Lewes.
A week after Simon Brown's earliest ever Stags hat-trick, the Bouldings became the first brothers to score in the same Stags team since the club joined the Football League.

The only other brothers to have achieved the feat were William and James Wheatley in 1911.

The Bouldings are also the first brothers to start a match together in a Stags shirt since Mick and Gary Saxby in November 1978.

Teenager Rory, on his debut and starting a competitive match alongside his strike partner brother for the first time, created the first goal for Micky - his 11th goal of what is becoming a prolific season - scored the second and then made way for substitute Ian Holmes to score his first Stags goal, too.

After scoring his goal Rory ran towards the West Stand to celebrate and afterwards told Chad: "I knew where my mum and dad were sat and so just ran over there. It was a great feeling."

Rory added that on the pitch his brother Micky, Division 2's second leading scorer, 'is just another player'.

And on the first goal, which he created for brother Micky in the 33rd minute with an inch-perfect cross, he joked: "All he has said so far is 'what a good finish' it was!"

On the second goal, a fine shot from an acute angle by the youngster which effectively won the game just six minutes later, he added: "It was great to get my first goal. As a striker it is especially important to score. But I was just happy that the goal relieved the pressure on the lads and demoralised them (Lewes), whoever scored it.

"We knew it would be tough today, a real battle. This was their final really, the wind and their big centre halves made it difficult, but we got on with it and battled through."

Rory took his chance after injury forced out Simon Brown - a hat-trick hero just a week earlier.

He said: "I have been scoring in the reserves and playing well, so I knew I had a good chance of playing with 'Browny' out.

"If he is out for longer I obviously would hope to keep my place in the team, but I know I have just got to keep my head down and work hard to try to stay in."

The teenager also had words of praise for his manager after his big day. He told Chad: "The gaffer is quality. I support Sheffield United and he is a legend there as a top striker.

"He was a great player himself and has plenty of advice for us strikers. He also gives youth its chance and talks to the younger players.

"If we do something wrong he doesn't shout, he just backs us to do better the next time."

The teenager, who recently returned to Field Mill from a loan spell at Hucknall Town, added: "Playing there regularly was great from a fitness point of view. First team matches are more intense than just playing in reserve matches."

Manager Billy Dearden only told Rory on the day of the match that he would be playing - and admitted afterwards that it was a gamble.

He told Chad: "I decided to keep with a pacy attack and with Browny being out, Rory was the natural replacement. It was a gamble, but it paid off.

"I wanted to keep with pace up front because that has worked in recent weeks and Rory didn't let me down.

"Big John (McAliskey) has not been training because of injury and I thought Rory could do a job for us today rather than 'Holmesy' (Ian Holmes)."

Rory and Micky Boulding both scored in the 3-0 win and Ian Holmes added a late third as a substitute - Holmes like Rory Boulding scoring his first Stags goal.

"Rory made one and scored one, and then 'Holmesy' came on and scored, so it must have been the right decision," joked the manager.

"So we have broken another record? That's brilliant for the brothers, they played well together. Rory has pace and works very hard in training.

"But both Rory and Iam Holmes are the future of this club. They are young, work hard and have a lot to offer.

"I was also pleased that 'Holmesy' got his goal. He knows he has a lot to learn and that it is a big step up from Matlock. But although he is still learning his trade, I know there is soemthing there and that he can be a good asset for this club in years to come."

Holmes, a summer signing from Matlock, admitted to Chad his relief at getting his first Stags goal.

"It is a massive relief, a weight off my shoulders, to get the first goal. I feel elated and it should boost my confidence.

"I hope there are more to come.

"I wasn't sure I had scored as I didn't see it going in. I just looked round and wondered where it had gone.

"It was a great ball in by Matty (Hamshaw), I just gambled to go in at the near post, flicked it on and the ball looped in over the keeper.

"The atmosphere is improving all the time at the club, on and off the pitch. At training the atmosphere is improving, there is a great team spirit.

"I've just got to score as many goals as I can when I get the chance to play, and play as well as I can.

"There are six good strikers at the club and I have just got to fight for my place in the team."

Well played Rory. Great to see someone try so hard, have pace and look dangerous. Fantastic pass for the important first goal. Definitely a Stags player for many years to come I hope

I thought we were poor first 30 mins, the goal changed it and what a great goal. From then on we were in control. Considering the injuries we did ok.
