"There was nothing between the sides in the first half, but I was very disappointed with our performance.

"We just didn't work hard enough and we never got out and pushed up like we have been doing.

"We had chances in the first half. But we gave the ball away a lot after the break and we are better than that. We got caught in possession and didn't do the right things.

"Rochdale played very well in the second half. I didn't think they could step up another gear at half time but they did.

"But we contributed to that by giving them too much room and time on the ball.

"I am disappointed for the supporters who came here on a dreadful afternoon.

"Rochdale fought and scrapped and passed the ball better than us.

"Whoever scored the first goal was very, very important.

"That was probably the worst our back four have played as a unit."

Skipper Jake Buxton added: "We had to deal with a lot of ball today.

"I think we could have dealt with the goal better. We came here with a plan and felt we could pick something up.

"We were slightly lucky in the first half as we were under the cosh. But it all went downhill in the second half.

"We kept clearing it and it went to one of their lads every time. We started to look tired but we had no game last week so there are no excuses.

"We have a big week ahead of us so now everyone has to stake their claim for a shirt for the FA Cup game. Any 11 could be picked from the squad now as no-one put in a good enough performance today to claim one."
