MANSFIELD Town defender Alex John-Baptiste says he hopes to one day play in the Championship, after handing in a transfer request at Field Mill.
The 22-year-old is one of just a handful of players still under contract at the club, newly relegated to non league football.

But his transfer request has been granted by the Stags, and he told the club's official website mansfieldtown.net that he hopes the fans will understand his decision.

"It was a big decision to hand in my transfer request after many happy years at Mansfield Town.

"I have thought about nothing else in recent weeks and it will be an upheaval to leave the town, my friends and family - but I feel I must do it to further my career."

He added that he one day hoped to play at Championship level.
