MANSFIELD Town manager Billy Dearden questioned his side's character after Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Accrington Stanley.
He told Chad after the Stags' fifth home defeat of the season: "What worries me is that we don't seem to have enough character in this club to come back when we go behind."

Dearden added that the Stags had missed a great chance to climb out of the relegation zone.

"We got what we deserved today," said Dearden.

"We huffed and puffed but didn't create much or defend well enough to get anything out of the game.

"We were second all round - at the back, in midfield and up front. We just didn't play like we can do for whatever reason and not many of them came out of it with much credit like they did on Boxing Day.

"I thought Accrington deserved to win on their second half show. We had a good chance to get out of the bottom four today and we didn't take it.

"I couldn't see if their first goal was offside. My keeper said it was but it doesn't matter, the goal was given.

"What worries me is that we don't seem to have enough character in this club to come back when we go behind. Yet when we score first we can go on and on."

Stanley manager John Coleman added: "I was delighted with our performance in testing conditions for both sides.

"We defended really well and to win away twice on the bounce is very pleasing.

"In a game like that, if you are going to be successful you have got to get the ball down and pass it which we did today.

"When Paul Mullin scored the first thing I did was look over at the linesman. I couldn't tell if it was offside but I would not have been surprised or upset if it had been given.

"But we have had some horrendous decisions against us this season so it was nice to get one and I was glad we scored a second."

It's no good stating the players frame of mind wasn't right .... never is when we go behind in a competitive game ! . You pick the team Billy ! .. the buck stops with you !! . On yesterdays game why bring that donkey back ( Buxton ) , Jellyman could & would have been better in that position !!! ... Another tip Billy ..... strip him of the captaincy his game might improve then ( but highly unlikely ) . In a real world we need "2 hard, no nonsense central defenders , midfield general that can play with Dawson ( Dairylea not good enough ) & most of all a striker that WILL score all these missed chances we are having ( somebody in the Greenacre mode ) ... until then we are going to struggle & relegation becomes a reality ... rant over !!!!

Mansfield Town are in terminal decline. Even if a miracle happens and we stay in the league, the future is bleak with no one prepared to buy the club even if Mr Haslam was prepared to sell at a realistic price. I wonder about the 50 protesters before the Accrington game. I am sure that there view is clouded by their ultimate aim to divest the club of Mr Haslam even if the ramications result in us dropping to the Blue Square League in a situation similar to Boston. The time has come for all supporters and the adminisration to pull together for the sake of the club. We need to stay in the league at all costs. The removal of Mr Haslam pails into insignifance compared with the loss of our league status.

So Ravensheadstag, you wonder about the protesters . . . i wonder about our owner is to blame for the mess! Protesting does not seem to make any difference to results on the field - there were no protests at home to dagenham! there were no protests at grimsby. there were no protests at chesterfield. there were no protests at home to bradford. there were no protests at home to lincoln . . . need i go on. only one man can stop us going into the non league. That is Haslam, who must sell now or make a proper amount of money available for Billy NOW and then sell in a few weeks time
