ANGRY football fans throughout the country are showing their support for Mansfield Town fans trying to block a name change to fictional team Harchester United.
The name change plan is the brainchild of would-be Stags owner John Batchelor - and has created a storm of protest.

Fans groups in Mansfield - the Stags Supporters Association and TEAM Mansfield - together with the town's mayor and MP have all condemned the idea.

  • Mansfield Town to Harchester United - all the stories

Now two groups have been created on internet social networking site Facebook, with hundreds of users already signing up to the groups to register their protest.

However, another group has been created in favour of the move.

Is this really news-worthy, Chad? They have all of 7 members in comparison to 350+ of the groups against the change and the group maker is from the 'Manchester' network.

I can't see the facebook profile because I'm not a member myself, but I'd hazard a guess it's been set up by Batchelor himself, and supporterd by alter egos; this was a favourite trick of his at York, to create multiple user names to register his opinions on the message boards. He led the moderators a rare old dance, as they attempted to delete them all after he was finally banned for being a d***h**d. ;o)
