STAGS chief executive Stephen Booth is 'cautiously optimistic' that a takeover deal at Mansfield Town FC will be concluded soon.
He told Chad ahead of Tuesday night's match with Morecambe that negotiations with five prospective buyers, two of whom have tabled firm offers, remain ongoing.

And he revealed that a sixth person had expressed an interest in buying the football club as the protracted sale of the Stags goes on.

He told Chad: "No-one has dropped out and there have been no more firm bids.

"I am very hopeful a deal can be concluded soon and I want a speedy resolution as much as the fans. Both the vendors and potential purchasers am very keen to achieve a resolution as soon as possible."

He also assured fans, increasingly sceptical that a sale will ever be achieved, that: "I would not be carrying on with the negotiations if I was not convinced of the validity of the bids and interests."
