DEFENDER Alex John-Baptiste is on his way out of Field Mill - one of several players expected to leave Mansfield Town this summer.
It is expected that a large proportion of the squad will change over the summer - whoever is manager and whoever owns the club - following the Stags relegation to non league football.
John-Baptiste is one of just a handful of players under contrac
t at the Stags after the end of the season.
But it is reported that the highly rated 22-year-old, who only signed a three-year deal 12 months earlier, has been told he can go.
Sky Sports reports Baptiste as saying: "I want to progress as a footballer and need to leave Mansfield in order to do this.
"I signed a new deal last summer in the belief that we could have a better campaign this time around. This obviously didn't happen and now my future lies elsewhere."
There is speculation that Bradford City and Chesterfield are trying to lure away leading scorer Micky Boulding, while captain Jake Buxton has hinted that he may have to leave.
Manager Paul Holland has been unable to offer the players he wants to keep new contracts for next season and remains uncertain about his own future, while owner Keith Haslam tries to complete a sale of the club.
And after Saturday's 2-0 defeat in the final match of the season at Dagenham, midfielder Lee Bell said the uncertainty was not helping the players.
