THE takeover at Mansfield Town descended into even more farce on Wednesday lunchtime during a phone-on on radio station 103.2 to discuss the turmoil off the pitch at Field Mill.
There were claims and denials of takeover meetings between Keith Haslam and John Batchelor and the threat by chief executive Stephen Booth to resign if a meeting had been planned without his knowledge

Would-be buyer Mr Batchelor insisted on air that he had an arranged meeting with owner Mr Haslam and his accountant Chris Harrison to discuss the 'Harchester United' businessman's takeover offer - at Mr Harrison's Sheffield offices.

That prompted Mr Booth, brought to the club by Mr Haslam to broker sale, to say he would resign if such a meeting had been arranged behind his back.

Mr Booth had earlier confirmed once again during the phone-in that he does not want the club to be sold to Mr Batchelor - but that the hated businessman seems to be the front runner.

The phone-in ended with Mr Haslam, though not willing to go on air, telling 103.2 that no meeting had been set-up for 3pm on Thursday at 180 London Road, Sheffield (where Mr Haslam's is based) - as Mr Batchelor claimed on air.

However, the farcical situation then descended into even more uncertainty during the afternoon when Mr Batchelor told Chad that he had spoken to Mr Harrison after the phone-in and the takeover meeting was still on.

Chad repeatedly tried to contact Mr Harrison and Mr Haslam without success on Wednesday afternoon.

But Mr Booth told Chad later in the afternoon: "I have spoken to Keith (Haslam) and he says there is no meeting with John Batchelor tomorrow or one planned for any other day.

"I have made my position clear. I do not want the club to be sold to John Batchelor. But, ultimately if he comes up with the money and if there is no other alternative, Keith might have to decide whether to sell to him. I don't know what that decision might be. But any sale to John Batchelor would not happen through me."

Did they finish off by playing 'Ha Ha Said The Clown' by Manfred Mann?

Pathetic! Haslam, either you are or are not willing to sell to this conman.

Batchelor is a proven, self-confessed liar, so why believe a word he says?

He's obviously trying to drive a wedge between the other parties involved in the sale of your club, for his own devious reasons.

I don't know Sheffield that well.
But googled 180 london road, Sheffield (Mr Batchelor says is the meeting place)

180 london road, Sheffield is a car sales forecourt.

What a sham. Ok, we've never been a big club nor had a huge support. But come on the town and its people - your club is dying. Where are the local businessman? No doubt they have all jumped on the glory-hunting bandwagon and have corporate boxes at Anfield, Old Trafford etc. You only have to walk round town to see where most people's misguided loyalties lie. You guys are just as bad as Haslam, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Instead of watching Man U and Chelsea from afar, get down the Mill and get behind the lads before, and it maybe already, it'stoo late. Shame on you Mansfield people and its business community.

To be honest Ellis, if Field Mill had been developed properly and had something to offer the local businessman then they wouldn't be watching premiership football. As it stands you can watch a better level of football for about the same price that Mansfield want.

I know a local businessman who used to sponsor the stags a fair bit who has since taken his money to Forest as they had more to offer whilst offering better football. In his own words he was treated like a joke by the commercial manager at MTFC and offered very little in return for a substantial amount of money. You will find people will sponsor a worthy cause which is just what MTFC isn't with Keith Haslam at the helm.

Effectively people are lining his pockets for him to mistreat the club, I can see why they aren't prepared to do it.
