Winning start
Mansfield optician Hannah Mulcaster got the 2009 multisport season off to a winning start with an age group victory in the Clumber Classic Duathlon.
The duathlon, held at scenic Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire, consisted of a 10k run followed by a 40km cycle race, finishing with a 5k run.
Hannah posted a personal best time for the 10k run of 40:44 and clocked times of 1:12:41 for the bike leg and 21:11 for the final 5k run.
Hannah’s total time of 2:14:38 gave her outright victory in the female 25-29 age category, beating Gemma Sargent into second place by a massive margin of 12:29.
In the men’s race Triathlon Club members Gareth Castledine and Peter Orme were both aiming to achieve qualifying times for the World Duathlon Championships that are to be held in Concord, USA on 26th September.
Early provisional results suggest both achieved the times.
Mansfield Triathlon Club is hosting a new series of triathlon coaching sessions aimed specifically at young people between the ages of eight and 16 years old.
The sessions will run at 10am on Saturday mornings, starting on 14th March and concluding on 11th April.
The sessions will be held at Ashfield School, Kirkby, and will include activities in all three sports of swimming, cycling and running.
Lasting for two hours and led by qualified triathlon coaches, the sessions are very reasonably priced at 5 for non-club members and 3.50 for club members.
To take part each child will need to bring their own cycle AND cycle helmet (no cycling is allowed without a helmet); swimming equipment and running clothes and shoes.
They should also bring a drink.
Places are limited so anyone interested in attending these sessions should contact Hugh Barnett by email at fatmantris@btinternet.com or telephone 07980 842727.
