Top ten spots for Mansfield Harriers runners in Notts AAA Road Race League

THE second fixture of the Notts AAA Road Race League took place at Holme Pierrepont and there were top 10 spots for two Mansfield Harriers.

Paul Butcher took fifth place in the Men’s race, clocking 27:03 for the five mile course, while Sally Hopkins showed no signs of fatigue from her London Marathon outing, recording 32:04.

Butcher led home the Mansfield Vets to top spot overall after two races with Mark Johnson just missing out on the top 10, finishing 11th in 27:17. Pete Stafford was 23rd in 28:45 and Andy Wilson completed the scoring quartet, recording 29:01 for 26th place.

Steve Davies secured a top 50 place, his time of 30:41 taking 47th spot. John Harrison (63rd in 31:34) and Bryan Borrill (70th in 32:00) joined Davies as scorers in the senior men’s team, Tim Raynor taking the fourth scorer spot with his time of 32:22 securing the 75th individual place.

John Bell was just three seconds behind Raynor in 77th with Jonathan Hardy (107th in 33:54) completing the scoring line-up.

Kahli Johnson was second Mansfield lady home, finishing 21st in 34:22 whilst Tina Green made sure of a top 50 finish, taking 47th in 37:14.

Sue Day was just outside the top 50 with her clocking of 37:49 for 51st place with Sally Smith (63rd in 38:48) and Maddy Collinge (70th in 39:25) also taking scoring places for Harriers.

Other Mansfield finishers, men – 117: David Binch – 34:42, 132: Colin Fell – 35:25, 144: Neil Collins – 36:01, 145: Adey Bellingham – 36:07, 149: Julian Wood – 36:28, 220: Alan Smith – 46:01. Women – 70: Maddy Collinge, 72: Kate Raynor – 39:39, 74: Julie Grainger – 39:44, 80: Fay Gardener – 40:46, 87: Hattie Lowe – 41:24, 96: Heather Schone – 42:41, 108: Denise Winfield – 44:31, 111: Julia Lowe – 45:02, 115: Sally Haywood – 48:14.

Two Mansfield Harriers got an early glimpse of the Olympic Stadium when taking part in the BUCS Championships, Sam Cordin coming away with a medal in the 4x100m relay with his Leeds University team.

Cordin also ran 21.92 in the semi-final of the 200m, having earlier clocked 21.94 in the heat.

Greg Millar took fifth spot in the javelin with a best throw of 60.33 metres.

Closer to home Cameron Smith set a new PB of 2:14.61 over 800m at the Charnwood Open Meeting.
