Title blow for Selston as early goal puts Wollaton level on points

Selston suffered a huge blow to their title hopes in the Notts Senior League Premier Division on Saturday as they fell 1-0 to second-placed Wollaton.

The result puts Wollaton level on points with Selston at the top, but with Saturday’s victors having three games in hand.

Ryan Bowen scored the only goal of a scrappy game for Wollaton after eight minutes, the hosts also having James McKeever sent off for two bookable offences.

Also in the Premier Division, Awsworth Villa were beaten 3-1 at home by Bingham Town, Channon Davis with Villa’s goal.

In Division One, second-placed Underwood Villa, sixth-placed Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves and bottom-of-the-table Awsworth Villa Reserves were all out of action, Underwood and Kimberley both seeing their matches postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Division Two leaders Watnall Athletic suffered just their fourth defeat of the season as they fell 2-0 at Cotgrave Reserves, meaning Kimberley Miners Welfare AFC remain title favourites as they are just two points behind Athletic with four games in hand, although they didn’t play on Saturday.

Underwood Villa Resererves remain third from bottom in the table as they were defeated 3-2 at home by Calverton Miners Welfare.
