Held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, the event, for swimmers aged 14 and over, was richly competitive. But the 21 representatives of the two local clubs covered themselves in glory, particularly 19-year-old Benjamin Rees, of Mansfield, who won a hat-trick of gold medals.

Golds were also won by Mansfield duo Summer Kennedy, 15, who claimed two silvers too, and Kiera Shepherd, 26, and by Sherwood’s Natalee Meldrum, 15, who also pocketed a silver and bronze. Sixteen-year-old Mansfield swimmer Rhys Taylor scooped a silver and three bronzes, while 16-year-old Sherwood swimmer Jade Young achieved a silver. Several competitors also clocked personal-best times.
