MANSFIELD and GB International triathlete Hannah Shooter kept her focus to win gold for the GE Great Britain Age Group Team at the European Championships in Spain.
Hannah was part of a successful British team which delivered an impressive 81 medals including 27 gold across the sprint and standard distance races at the ETU European Championships.
Competing in the 30 to 34 age group Hannah, who is a fully trained optomotrist working in Mansfield, fought off competition from fellow British athlete Nicola Wood to clinch gold.
Hannah, a member of Mansfield Triathlon Club, completed a 1,500m swim in around 25 minutes before clocking 1:11 for the 40km cycle and finished the 10km run in 41 minutes, despite the searing heat.
The delighted 30-year-old did not even realise she had won until some time after crossing the finishing line.
“I was really chuffed to win gold but didn’t know where I’d finished after I crossed the line because there were no timing chips which you would normally have to see your place,” she said.
“It was red hot and the swim was through a river so everyone’s times were a bit down, but luckily the triathlon was in the morning so we avoided the midday heat.”
Hannah combines her life as a triathlete with her full time job as a optomostrist at R C Pinder Ltd in Mansfield and fits in a gruelling training routine around her profession.
“My workmates think I’m a bit nuts but are very supportive and decorated the office with balloons to celebrate the win which was very kind of them,” she added.
