Nominations are being sought for the cream of the sporting crop around Mansfield.

A total of 11 awards are up for grabs at the annual Mansfield Sports Recognition Awards, which takes place at John Fretwell Sporting Complex on 8th December.

Coun Phillip Shields, portfolio holder for the environment at Mansfield District Council, said the event was a fantastic way of recognising the area’s unsung sporting hereos.

“The Mansfield Sports Recognition Awards are a fantastic way of nominating the unsung heroes of sports clubs and individuals, who go the extra mile to ensure sporting activity continues to thrive across the District,” he said.

“It is important that we recognise and celebrate their achievements. Their total commitment and effort are a constant source of inspiration.”

For the first time, the Junior sportsperson of the year award has been split into two age categories due to the large number of high quality entries in previous years.

Organisers say awards for those aged under 15 and those aged 15 to 17 will enable more young people to have their achievements recognised.

Categories on offer are:

Junior team of the year

Junior sportsperson of the year – under 15 years

Junior sportsperson of the year – 15 to 17 years

Junior sports leader of the year

Junior disabled sportsperson of the year

Club of the year

Disabled sportsperson of the year

Sportsperson of the year

Coach of the year

Team of the year

Volunteer of the year (this also includes referees, officials, administrators etc)

All nominees receive a certificate in recognition of their contribution to the great sporting heritage in Mansfield District.

Entry forms are available from sports clubs and leisure centres across the district, or by contacting sports facilitator Martin Cook at Mansfield District Council on 01623 463 026 or mcook@mansfield.gov.uk. Alternatively, you can fill in a nomination form online at www.mansfield.gov.uk/nominate.

Nominees must either live or pursue their sport within the Mansfield District.

A photograph of the nominee/s should be sent via email to mcook@mansfield.gov.uk for use at the awards presentation event.

The deadline for nominations is Friday 14 November 2014.
