Young debutants help Mansfield Swimming Club to gala success

Buoyant Mansfield Swimming Club are celebrating after finishing a superb second overall in the latest round of action in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Junior League.

The competition was held at Eckington in Derbyshire for swimmers aged nine to 12, and the Mansfield squad welcomed several new faces poolside for what was their first time at a gala. They acquitted themselves with huge credit and helped the club achieve a haul of 37 top-three places in the 47 events.

In total, Mansfield raced to 14 first places, 13 second places and ten third places as they successfully competed against opposition from rival clubs Nottingham Leander, Ilkeston Etwall Silvers and Hucknall and Linby Dolphins.

Nine personal-best times were recorded by James Flint, Sophie Dallison, Lewis Meade, Matthew Wilson, Tyler Brown, Amy Martin, Abigail Young, Dillon Preece and Isobel Holmes, who also broke two club records.

Other members of the Mansfield squad, which was led by captain Charlotte Baguley, were: Lewes Shorthose, Bailey Slater, Charlotte Hopkinson, Evie Wilson, Beth Hamilton, Lauren Vaughan, Sam Hammond, Callum Brookes, Mason Brown, Amelia Hargrave and Amelia Hopkinson,
