Thousands flock to Ladies Day at Southwell Racecourse

Southwell Racecourse looked fabulous and defiantly underlined itself as one of the region’s top tourist attractions with a record attendance for Ladies Day.

More than 8,000 racegoers visited the racecourse for its premier day of the year which is a modern day record for any fixture at the course.

Mark Clayton, General Manger said; “It was my first Ladies Day at Southwell and I am extremely happy the hard work of all the team here has paid off, to get a record crowd is magnificent, and much thanks goes to our sponsors who have helped make it such a great day.

“This day seems firmly set in many people’s dairy and is a credit to the racecourse the day seems to be getting bigger and better.

“Our de-brief process will start straight away with the aim evolving is fantastic event into an even better day in 2015!”

A fabulous array of prizes was awarded after the final race to the best dressed lady, in addition to the ladies with the best hat and best shoes.

The winner for ‘Best Dressed Lady’ went to Demie Haggar from Fernwood, ‘Best Shoes’ went to Lucinda Southern from Tuxford and finally ‘Best Hat’ went to Siobhan Newton from Sheffield.

Entertainment also came in the form of a John Lewis Fashion show including coats, sportswear and evening gowns from their AW14 collection, along with a live performance from The Take That Experience.
