Sherwood Colliery SC confirmed their status as one of the county’s top swimming clubs after their juniors claimed three gala wins in a row.

They also secured their place in the final of the Derbyshire and Notts Junior League as joint favourites for the title.

In the first of a three gala series, the Sherwood youngsters dominated from the outset, where the first and second places kept coming and didn’t stop. Individual and relay victories added points to the scoreboard to secure their win with a 241 points, holding off a strong Sutton SC team with 230 and ahead of Derby Phoenix, Etwall Eagles Silver, Southwell and Nottingham Northern.

The talented young squad, all aged between 9 and 12 years-old, then continued their great form with another winning performance at the Notts ASA Stage 1 Spring Trophy Gala held at Water Meadows

They defeated tough opposition from Nottingham Leander A, Leander B, Worksop Dolphins, Chesterfield & Carlton Forum to continue their fine form.

And completing the hat-trick of wins, in the second round of the Derbyshire & Notts Junior League, the young stars once again showed their impressive form holding off rivals from Belper Marlins, Derby Phoenix, City of Derby B, Chesterfield and Ripley with a comfortable 20 points victory to swim their way into the third round and League final next month.

There are currently 11 leagues that are affiliated to the Junior League, and within these leagues more than 200 swimming clubs throughout England and Wales are participating.

Sherwood Colliery compete in the Southern Area League where, in 2013, they secured the Derbyshire & Notts League Champions title and a place in the Southern Area Final.
