Rally pair Wayne and Smith ready to step up a gear

After a strong performance on the Dukeries Rally, where the Select Cars team of driver Gary Wayne, of Sutton, and co-driver Andy Smith, of Forest Town, finished a creditable15th, they have now entered the Jane Cowling Memorial Phoenix Stages Rally at the disused RAF Fulbeck near Newark on Sunday, 4th August.

The crew should at long last have their new six-speed sequential gearbox fitted to the striking black, silver and green Subaru Impreza.

The Australian-built Modena gearbox should make the car approximately one second per kilometre quicker as the gear changes can be carried out in fractions of a second and without lifting off the power, many events are won and lost by the odd second here and there. So every fraction counts.

On the same event in 2012 they finished third overall in the old four-door classic shaped Subaru Impreza. Fulbeck is a favourite venue of the drivers and Gary expects to achieve a similar result - if not better!

This will be the team’s last single venue event of the season as they move up a gear and class when they tackle the North Yorkshire-based Trackrod Forest Rally at the end of September, which is a round of the BTRDA Series and the British Rally Championship.

Gary and Andy will return to Yorkshire in November to tackle the challenging Malton Forest Rally, which has been known to offer challenging snow-covered forest tracks.

The final event of the season will be Dukeries MC’s third event of the year, the Premier Rally, in Sherwood Pines on 24th November.

These last three forest events are to be entered in preparation for a full season in the BTRDA Championship if finances allow.

This championship is the most competitive and best forest rallying series in the UK. The calendar includes eight rallies held in Somerset, Wales, the Forest of Dean, the Lake District and North Yorkshire, not forgetting local event the Dukeries Rally in June 2014.

To enable the crew to enter these eight events they will be hoping to attract some support and sponsorship over the next few month, go to www.selectcars.biz and contact Gary for more details.
