RISING Bilsthorpe motorbike rider Dawson Marriott (11) hopes he is on the road to the big time after celebrating his latest championship success.
The Wellow House pupil recently retained the Ride Off-road UK Jumior Championship after a sparkling season.
Delighted dad Shane said: “He has got a real raw talent for racing and that shows when he is out on the circuit.
“You can teach them how to ride the bike, but you cannot teach them how to race.
“Dawson is a brave rider and displays excellent grit and determination which is why he is being so successful.
“As a dad watching him you sometimes feel scared but you’ve just got to trust in his abilities. We are all very proud of him.”
He is now looking for a repeat success after making the step up in class from the 65cc division to the 85cc category - a step up with Shane believes is well within his reach.
“We think he has got what it takes,”he said. “Dawson has proved himself against the 85cc racers during the course of last season.
“He has got the pace and has won everything he has entered in so we are hopeful for the future.
“Ultimately we hope Dawson can make his way to the very top of the sport, but we will have to see.
“There is a long way to go yet and there will be lots of pain and crashes in the future. We are all very excited about the future.”
Race day is a family affair with Dawson’s main sponsor being Mansfield Motorcycles, on Carter Lane, which is owned by dad Shane.
