THE loss of the Half Marathon obviously had no detrimental effect on the ever popular Mansfield Fun Run on Sunday.
As ever, the people of Mansfield and Ashfield streamed to the event, based at Berry Hill Park, showing their community spirit and supporting their local schools and clubs.
Winner was James O’Mara (15) while Milly Wortley (nine) was the first female home as 1,122 participants finished from the 1,250 entries.
Olympic Torch bearer and event organising committee member, Steve Grainger, was on hand all morning giving many runners the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Torch.
However, it is patently obvious that the Fun Run needs no Olympic connection to be successful.
For year after year, thousands of local people have shown their love for this fantastic community event.
