A glance at the results of the Rainworth Skoda Dukeries Rally for the past few years immediately highlights the fact that none of the recent winners of the event will be present this time, leaving the way open for a new name to be added to the impressive list of victors over the past 53 years in the local forests.
Hugh Hunter took his Ford Focus WRC to victory in 2012, but the car is currently up for sale and has been withdrawn from competition.
Two years ago Andy Burton became the first person to win the rally four times before the rules governing eligible vehicles were changed, sidelining his famous Peugeot Cosworth.
At the time of writing it also appears unlikely that Steve Perez, winner in 2006, 2009 and 2010, will be in the starting line-up at Southwell Racecourse on 8th June either.
So, it’s ‘out with the old and in with the new’ and there will be no shortage of contenders with their eye on the top prize.
The event is the fifth round of the REIS – Get Connected BTRDA Rally Series.
