SHERWOOD Swimming Club members won a national bronze in the the British Gas ASA National Youth and Age Group Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
After achieving the tough qualifying times, Lewis Steptoe (18), Kieran McGinley (16), Daniel Timms (16), Imogen Gould (16), Shannon Brown (14) and Elliot Clogg (12) all swam strongly in a number of individual and team relay events.
Lewis, Daniel and Shannon were part of the Nova Centurion relay teams, finishing fifth overall in the 4 x 200m freestyle finals and Shannon additionally joined her Nova team-mates in the 4 x 100m freestyle & 4 x 100m medley events.
However, it was Daniel and his three Nova squad members who enjoyed the best of the relays securing a coveted national bronze in the 4 x 100m medley.
Individually, Imogen qualified for the semi-final in 100m butterfly and competed in the 100m breaststroke, along with Daniel qualifying for the semi- finals in 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley and 200m breaststroke. Lewis competed in the 200m, 400m and 1500m freestyle, Kieran in the 200m butterfly, Shannon in the 800m freestyle, and Elliot, in his first national event, in the 1500m freestyle.
Head coach, Ian Negus, said he was proud to see the club’s swimmers proving they can compete with the very best.
