Mansfield rise to Major Oak challenge

Mansfield Swimming Club members managed 23 first places and set 107 new personal best times at their annual Major Oak open meet at Water Meadows

Competitors from all over the region took part, many chasing county and regional qualifying times.

Mansfield were well represented with 33 swimmers competing.

Mansfield swam a total of 172 races and achieved 50 top three placings.

Their winners were: Charlotte Baguley (14) 50m breaststroke, Hollie-Mae Dove (11) 50m and 100m breast, Heidi Marriott (9) 50m and 200m backstroke, Natalee Meldrum (13) 100m breast, Nick Meldrum (11) 100m and 200m breast, Brendan O’Keefe (17) 200m back, Chloe Peach(14) 50m, 100m, 200m fly, 50m and 100m back, Ben Sharrocks (14) 100m and 200m back and 200m breast, and Rhys Taylor (14) 200m IM,100m and 200m free,50m and 100m fly and 100m breast.

Rhys Taylor managed top three finishes in all of his events with Chloe managing the same except for one event.

Ben Sharrocks, Brendan O’ Keefe, Chloe Peach, Chris Baguley and Rhys Taylor all achieved Midland short course qualifying times or improved on already achieved times and will be competing at these championships in December.

Local Paralympian star Charlotte Henshaw presented some awards and took the time to talk to and spend time with the swimmers and share some of her experiences with them.
