MANSFIELD Swimming Club’s Ollie Hempsall and Brendan O’Keefe were in good form in the Derventio Open at Derby.
Brendan swam in the 100m free and back just outside his best times while Ollie competed in the 100m free and 50m breast, again just outside his best times.
The afternoon saw the much anticipated 50m freestyle race, in which Ollie has been very close to achieving the national time in recent weeks.
All of Mansfield Swimming Club were holding their breath and, with fingers crossed, were waiting for the news.
Then it came - Ollie had swum in a time of 24.82secs, which is bang on the national qualifying time and booked a place in the national championships later in the year.
Meanwhile Shannon and Abbie Scott and Owen-Ben Sladen travelled to Stockbridge in Sheffield where they were competing in the sprint meet.
Abbie finished second in the final of the 50m fly and free, third in the back and sixth in the breast, setting a new PB in the free of 37.37.
Shannon took part in the same events, not setting any best times, but some excellent swimming showing she is on her way back to form.
Owen finished second in the 50m fly, free, breast and third in the back, setting best times in the fly, 45.55, and breast, 52.88.
Meanwhile dad and coach Gary Scott was at Don Valley Stadium, competing in the 10k race where he finished just outside his PB in a time of 39m17secs.
The club finished fourth in the trophy gala in Hucknall, but they had some amazing swims with some representing the team for the first time.
As part of a fund-raising drive the club also travelled to the dog racing in Nottingham last Friday.
Mansfield were up against three other teams in competition with Mansfield having trap two, which won on the night by two points, which means the club will return in October for the final and hopefully raise more money.
