MANSFIELD Hockey Club’s first team were outplayed by high-flying Nottingham University who ran out 7-2 winners

Mansfield played well defensively until the 21st minute when Chris Harden produced a superb reverse stick shot into the top right hand corner of the net to give second-placed Notts the lead.

Further goals on 25 mins from good open play and on 34 mins from a short corner gave Notts a commanding 3-0 half-time lead.

At the start of the second half Mansfield created some good chances, without scoring.

A mistake in the Mansfield defence gave Notts an easy fourth goal. Mansfield continued to try to play attacking hockey and gained a short corner. A shot at goal was saved and a quick break away by Notts enabled them to score a fifth.

Still Mansfield went forward, and an excellent pass from Roy Greasby found Kyle Farquharson to score for Mansfield.

Three minutes later Kyle scored a second for Mansfield following good work by Jamie Younger.

At this stage Mansfield were a match for their opponents creating a further short corner. At the other end Jay Ward kept Notts at bay.

However, Notts’ finishing exceeded Mansfield’s and two more goals late on confirmed Notts’ comfortable victory.
