Mansfield and Ashfield swimmers boost experience at British Swimming National Summer Championships

Mansfield and Ashfield’s elite swimmers picked up more valuable expeirence during the recent British Swimming National Summer Championships at the iconic Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

Swimming with the Nova Centurion squad, Sherwood Colliery’s Imogen Gould (20) led the local charge, qualifying for an impressive five individual event finals.

She claimed podium finishes and silver medals in the women’s 18yr/over 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke.

She also placed fourth in the finals of the 200m individual medley, fifth in the 100m breaststroke and sixth in the 100m butterfly.

Continuing the Sherwood Colliery and Nova Centurion successes, Natalee Meldrum (14) qualified for the final of the women’s 14yrs 50m Breaststroke, placing fifth.

Jade Young (15) qualified for the final of the women’s 15yrs 200m butterfly, placing sixth and the final of the 400m individual medley.

More medals were added to the Nova Centurion tally with Mansfield SC’s Rhys Taylor (15), taking the third podium step in the final of the men’s 15yrs 400m individual medley.

Mansfield and Nova Centurion team mate, Keira Shepherd (25), took bronze in the final of the women’s multi-classification 50m freestyle and placed fourth in the 100m finals of the same event.

Completing the Mansfield SC representation in the Nova squad, Summer Kennedy (14), qualified for the finals of the women’s 14yrs 200m individual medley placing fourth.

There were further Nova Centurion successes with Sutton SC’s Hollie Mae Dove (12), qualifying for the finals of the women’s 12/13yrs 200m breaststroke, placing fifth, and the 100m event, placing sixth, alongside her Sutton and Nova team-mate, Mia Fergie (14), who qualified for the finals of the women’s 14yrs 100m Bbutterfly, placing fourth and the 200m individual medley, placing seventh.

Completing the local line up, Sutton SC’s Kelsey Edwards competed in the men’s 14yrs 50m freestyle, touching in a new personal best time of 26.72 and just missing out on a finals place by a tenth of a second to finish 11th.
