Kirkby’s Hynd brothers Sam and Ollie go head to head in Paralympics swimming

KIRKBY brothers Sam and Ollie Hynd will fight out their first swimming showdown in the London Paralympics today when they go head to head in the S8 400m freestyle.

Sam won gold in that event in Beijing but brother Ollie has been hot on his heels ever since.

The sibling rivalry will then be renewed on Wednesday when they will lock horns in the SM8 200m individual medley, in which Ollie is the current European record holder and world number one.

Ollie had his first taste of action in the S8 100m butterfly yest erday (Thursday) but finished fourth in his heat in a time of 1:07.82, missing out on qualification.

Also on Wednesday, Mansfield Woodhouse medal hopeful Charlotte Henshaw will swim the SB6 100m breaststroke.

Tom Hall-Butcher, of Somercotes, competes in the wheelchair fencing in the men’s individual sabre a day later.
