Mansfield/Nova Swim Squad (supported by Nottinghamshire County Council and Mansfield District Council) member Karl Morgan (16) has been selected to represent Team Great Britain, at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Trabzon, Turkey, this week.
Karl (pictured left) was chosen following his excellent performances at the British Swimming Championships and Trials in Manchester in March.
This also follows on from his success at the 2010 ASA Youth Championships, where he had a string of good performances including taking gold in the Boy’s 15yrs 50m Freestyle.
The event is a multi-sport bi-annual event for 13-17-year-olds and is designed to give competitors the taste of international competition and help them gain as much experience as possible.
This will be a fantastic opportunity for Karl, who will be swimming as part of the 4x100m freestyle team, and will be looking to impress and hopefully help his team mates to succeed.
Glenn Smith, swim coach and development officer for Mansfield District Council, said, “This is a great opportunity for Karl and is well deserved.
“He can be justly proud of his selection, which rewards his hard work and dedication throughout the year.”
