Harrier strikes gold at county championship

Sutton Harrier Tony Stailand struck gold at the Jack Walters Memorial Notts 10-mile road race, which incorporated the County 10-Mile Championship and attracted more than 300 athletes.

Staniland, who clocked a time of 86:58, became county champion in the over 70s age category.

Paul Frith ran a good race, finishing 31st in 61:58, followed by Nick Luke 43rd in 64:04. Wayne Low finished 144th in 75:29 and Dan Crow, returning from injury, finished 156th in 77:31.

The first Sutton lady was Claire Watson in 94th in 70:55. Rebecca Barson, also returning from injury, finished 133rd in 74:15.

In the Booths Summer Lerague, after the third league meeting at Denby, the men’s team are second, the ladies fourth and the combined team third.

At the Clumber Park 10k, Keith Brown ran a season’s best 45:27, finishing 49th.

Sutton Harriers have a free Saturday morning session open to members and non-members, which starts at the old Ashfield pub car park at 8am.

There are different sessions each week and last week there was a 10k time -trial around Sutton.

Among the runners there were three who had personal best times.
