Giants basketball club land USA guard Marcellus

Mansfield Giants Basketball Club are thrilled to land the signature of explosive American guard Jean-Paul Marcellus.

JP, a 6ft 4ins graduate from Eastern-Nazarene-College led the team in scoring (15.9 pts/g), rebounding (10.6 rebs/g), free throws made and free throws attempted.

He was the Crusaders’ top scorer in 13 games and led the team in rebounds on 19 of 25 games and earned All-TCCC Honourable Mention Team by leading the the Commonwealth Coast Conference in total rebounding, offensive rebounding and free throw attempts.

JP also finished second in the TCCC in made free throws and double-doubles (achieving double digits in both points and rebounding in a game), while ending the season 12th in scoring and 15th in steals. Additionally he finished ranked 18th nationally in total rebounds in NCAA Division III basketball.

 During the season, JP will be involved with the Giants junior teams and also Giants community programme, passing on his knowledge of the game to the young people in the club and around the area.

 Head coach Dan Richards said: “He is a fantastic signing for us.

“He is an exceptionally exciting player to watch, but more importantly for me, he is a great guy and is a real hard working team player.  He will be really good for the younger generation to look up to and aspire to.”

On Saturday Giants begin their National league fixtures with a trip to London West Side.
