Former Mansfield Harrier Rachel Gair gets silver at England National Championships

MANSFIELD athlete Rachel Gair took a Silver medal at the England National championships held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Gair, who competes for Trafford AC but still trains and lives locally, secured the podium place with a best throw of 60.55m.

Gair’s younger sister Charlotte took seventh spot in the Discus at the same championships with a best throw of 40.78m. Both girls are coached by their Dad, and Mansfield Harriers Chairman, Paul Gair.

A week later and both Gair girls were in action at the Bedford International Games – Rachel throwing a season’s best of 60.76m in the Hammer and Charlotte throwing the Discus 42.54m.

David Lagerberg was in action at the same meet where he ran a season’s best of 48.18, just 3/10ths of a second off his PB.

Stuart King and Martin Cook were both running in Mansfield colours at the England Championships – King clocking 3:59.88 in his heat of the 1500m to secure a place in the final where he ran 4:01.0 to take thirteenth place. Cook ran 50.36 to finish in fifth spot in his heat of the 400m.

Both Sam Johnson and Cameron Smith recorded new Under 17 PBs over 1500m – Johnson running to a time of 4:20.5 in the BMC meeting at Birmingham and Smith clocking 4:27.69 at the Charnwood Open.

The Charnwood meeting also produced a new PB of 11.35 over 100m for Tom Wallett who, in finishing second, ran to within one one hundredth of a second of the winner.

Kaisha Buchanan and Rachel Norris, who retain their spots at second and eighth respectively in the U13 and U17 UK 100m rankings.

Both turned out at Charnwood – Buchanan recording 13.23 and Norris 12.40. Chris Ashmore recorded 12.65 and James Norris 15.15 over the same distance.
