Hucknall teenage tennis ace Freya Christie was this week celebrating her first ever win at Wimbledon.
Freya (17) teamed up with Glaswegian Anna Brogan on Wednesday to get past the first round of the Junior Doubles, beating Viktoria Kusmova (Slovakia) and Beatrice Torelli (Italy) 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Freya made her Junior Wimbledon debut in 2013 and this is her final year before stepping up the senior events.
After the victory, a smiling Freya said: “It feels amazing, being on a big court like that and taking the win in the third set as well with the home crowd, it was really good.
“I had quite a big crowd out today and everyone was supporting which was great.”
In round two they will face the pairing of American Usue Maitane Arconada and Canadian Charlotte Robilliard-Millette.
Freya made a first round exit in the singles, beaten 6-2, 6-3 by Russian youngster Olesya Pervushina, who then went on to knock out China’s Shilin Xu 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the second round before losing 6-1, 6-7, 2-6 to American Micheala Gordon in round three.
