Ben Sharrocks stars for Mansfield Swimming Club at Coventry

Mansfield Swimming Club’s Ben Sharrocks had an amazing meeting at the Midland Championships in Coventry where, not only did he complete a set of personal best times, he also qualified for the Nationals Championships to be held in August.

Ben competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m freestyle where he placed eightth, ninth, 11th and 14th.

He finished sixth in the 100m back and 12th in the 200m individual medley and placed fourth in the 200m back in a new time of 2.32.33, qualifying him for the nationals.

Not content with that, he the finished fifth in the 400m medley in another national qualifying time of 5.24.76, proving his versatility as he was awarded 10th place overall in his 12yrs age group.

Ben will now with team mates Oliver Hempsall and Tom Howarth in the National Champinships in August.

The small group of Mansfield SC members put on an awesome display of talent.

Abbie Scott, Ellis Malson and Natalee Meldrum had qualified for the championships for the first time this year.

Ellis completed the 100m backstroke in a new best time of 1.24.63 in the 10yrs age group while Natalee showed her talent in the breaststroke as she competed in the 100m and 200m events, placing 12th in 1.32.67 and 19th in another best time of 3.20.17.

Abbie is another developing talent and qualified in the 100m backstroke, finishing 10th in a new best time of 1.25.28.

She also competed in the 100m and 200m freestyle where she finished sixth in a new time of 1.12.91 in the 100m and a fantastic third in the 200m in 2.35.14.

With these results she managed to finish seventh overall in her 10yrs BAGCAT age group and was awarded a certificate and medal.

The boys team were represented by Rhys Taylor in the 13yrs age group and Ben Sharrocks in the 12yrs age group. They each had a very busy schedule and set new best times in all of their events.

Rhys had qualified for the 100m,200m, and 400m freestyle, the 100m and 200m breast where he placed seventh and 10th.

He also competed in the 200m and 400m individual medley events finishing eighth and 19th and also swam the 200m backstroke, ending up overall 25th in his age group.

Mansfield’s Tyrelle Hamilton also helped the Nova B team to fourth place in the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relays.
