Mixed week for Selston as cup agony follows league victory

Selston endured a mixed week in the NSL as a league win on Saturday was followed by a League Cup semi-final defeat to Wollaton on Wednesday.

Saturday’s success was a 1-0 victory over Sandhurst, the only goal coming when Perry Marriott headed home Dominic Airey’s corner at the back post.

But on Wednesday night at the Stag Ground in Kimberley, Ryan Bowen scored the only goal on 65 minutes as Wollaton progressed to the cup final.

Also in the Premier Division on Saturday, Awsworth Villa were beaten 5-2 at home by Burton Joyce, Daniel Towle with both of Awsworth’s goals.

Underwood Villa’s charge towards the Division One title remains on track after two big wins.

They hammered Magdala Amateurs 8-0 on Saturday, Callum Thompson hitting four, Ashley Foster a brace and Richard Hodgman and Josh Hunt also on target.

That was followed up with a 3-0 win at South Normanton Reserves on Wednesday.

Kimberley MW Reserves lost 2-1 to Ashland Rovers on Friday night, Luke Hodgman with the Welfare goal.

In Division Two, Kimberley MW AFC were 4-0 winners over Underwood Villa Reserves with Robbie Tonra and Daniel Walsh (2) among the goals, Villa then going down 6-4 at Bilborough on Tuesday.

Watnall Athletic were 4-1 winners against AFC Clifton on Wednesday nigth.
