BEING named Junior Sportsperson of the Year at the Mansfield Sports Awards crowned a fantastic 2011 for local showjumper Beth Vernon.
The Junior Sportsperson title was hotly contested with eight other athletes shortlisted for the title.
Beth’s mum Allyson said: ‘There were some brilliant young sports people at the awards ceremony.
“I hadn’t realised that Mansfield has so many good athletes and we were thrilled and surprised that Beth won.”
This has been a year of dream making for 15-year-old Beth (pictured in action - right).
Not only has she achieved team and individual gold at the Pony European Championships but she has also had numerous successes in three other international competitions - the British Masters, CSIOP Hagen, CSIO PJYch Zilveren, Belgium where she was placed first - and numerous winnings at national events such as Pony of the Year Show and The Blue Chip Championships.
Beth is an extremely talented rider who works hard balancing her school and riding commitments.
She has been riding since the age of three when she was given a little pony called Royal and had lessons from a local rider and coach, Karen Peck.
At nine years old Beth decided that showjumping was her favourite discipline and started to train with British Showjumping coach Liane Smith.
Beth’s success was also recently recognised at the British Showjumping Awards Ball where she was awarded the title of Best Pony Rider of the Year.
