Stags take on Notts County in St George’s Park friendly

WITH no game this coming weekend, Mansfield Town will keep themselves ticking over with a behind-closed-doors friendly against League neighbours Notts County at the St George’s Park National Football Centre tomorrow (11am).

Said manager Paul Cox: “We will play on an under-soil heated pitch. We don’t want players getting rusty, so I decided to fix this game up.

“I will probably give everyone part of the game and may play three lots of 30 minutes.

“The weather is frustrating, but it is something you’ve got to deal with. You can’t do anything about it and I don’t think there will be many other games going ahead this week.”

Stags’ game at Wrexham was called off due to the Red Dragons’ continued involvement in the FA Trophy and Cox was unable to move any other game into the vacant slot. However, weather forecasts suggest it may have been a waste of time anyway with all eyes now on forecasts for the Hereford area for when Mansfield are due to visit Edgar Street on Tuesday night.

Cox was at least cheered by some better news on the injury front. Defender Exodus Geohaghon is back in training while striker Jake Speight did not need any cartilage removed in his operation this week and could be playing back inside five weeks instead of missing the rest of the season as expected.
